If you’re like most people, you probably keep some cash on hand at home. It comes in handy, especially during a disaster when getting to the bank isn’t an option.
But have you ever wondered whether condo insurance in Florida actually covers that cash? Here’s the answer from Americas Insurance Associates.
Condo Insurance and Cash
Standard condo insurance often provides some coverage for cash kept in your living space, but that protection comes with strict limits. Most policies cap the payout for stolen or lost money at a relatively low amount.
In fact, for physical bank notes or coins, insurers typically cap coverage between $200 and $500, regardless of how much cash was actually lost.
Proof of Cash Holdings
If you file a claim for stolen or damaged cash in your condo, you’ll need to be able to demonstrate that you actually had those funds on hand at the time. If the cash was damaged to the point of being unusable, you’ll also need to show evidence of that damage.
Assuming your cash is covered, that coverage will typically fall under your policy’s named perils section. As long as the specific cause, whether it’s burglary, fire, or water damage, is listed in your policy, you’ll generally be eligible for compensation up to your coverage cap.
